02-15 4/11/02 Festival Preview
The 6th annual Southern Illinois Irish Festival, in the home town of Celtic Connections, promises to be a great weekend of Irish music and dance, April 26-28, 2002. This week's program gives a musical preview of the performers: Danu, Bohola, Grey Larsen & Paddy League, Scottish National Fiddle Champion Jeremy Kittel, and The Dorians, who will be joined on stage by dancers from Chicago's McNulty School of Irish Dance. Photos and details are available on the festival website at http://www.siu.edu/~irish/.

02-16 4/18/02 Music of Middle Earth
J.R.R. Tolkien's epic novel "The Lord of the Rings" has inspired not only filmmakers but also musicians and composers in such diverse genres as folk, parlor music, symphonic, rock, and experimental music. The music of Middle Earth will be featured on this week's program, along with some rare recordings of Professor Tolkien himself, and selections from the recent award-winning film soundtrack including compositions by Irish singer Enya.

02-17 4/25/02 Free Reed Sampler
England's Free Reed record label recently marked its 25th anniversary by releasing a 3-CD set of tracks from all of their releases, including field recordings and studio recordings by some of the legendary names in British and Irish traditional music. Tune in this week for an impressive array of performers, from Micho Russell and Seamus Ennis to Martin Carthy and Fairport Convention.

02-18 5/2/02 New Releases
Taste what's cookin' in the Celtic kitchens of Ireland, Scotland, England, and North America as we sample from the feast of new Celtic releases.

02-19 5/9/02 Highlands & Islands
Our featured Celtic regions this week are the Scottish highlands and islands, where rough conditions and remote isolation have preserved centuries-old traditions of Gaelic singing, piping, and fiddling, but where innovation is also very much in evidence.

02-20 5/16/02 The Clancy Brothers & Tommy Makem
No group of Irish singers has been better known and more widely enjoyed over the past 50 years than The Clancy Brothers and their long-time fellow singer Tommy Makem. Clad in their Arran knit sweaters, they set the standard for rousing versions of drinking songs and rebel songs for audiences all the way from Dublin to Carnegie Hall. Tune in this week for some favorites from their extensive discography.

02-21 5/23/02 Old Favorites
This week's program offers a fine assortment of songs and tunes from recordings of the past 40 years.

02-22 5/30/02 Songs of Mick Moloney
Irish singer, scholar, banjo/mandolin/guitar player and tour-guide Mick Moloney is unequalled in his knowledge of Irish and Irish-American music, as is wonderfully evident in his newest CD, "Far From the Shamrock Shore." This week's program offers selections from this and previous recordings, as well as stories and songs from his concert performances at the Southern Illinois Irish Festival.

02-23 6/6/02 New Releases
It's time once again to dust off those new releases (hold on, they haven't had time to gather dust yet!) and choose selections from some of the best music being recorded on both sides of the Atlantic by Celtic performers.

02-24 6/13/02 The Pipes, The Pipes
The pipes, the pipes are calling, in this week's panoply of Celtic pipers and their instruments, ranging from the uilleann pipes of Ireland to the smallpipes and Highland pipes of Scotland.

02-25 6/20/02 Paul Brady
Northern Irish singer/songwriter Paul Brady is highly respected as a crafter of captivating songs, and as a guitar accompanist to some of the legendary traditional musicians. With the re-release of his full discography by Compass Records, we will face a tough challenge in choosing only an hour's worth of favorites, but the end result will undoubtedly be a listeners' pleasure.

02-26 6/27/02 Mixed Bag
We reach into the record bag and see what we get in this week's sampler of old and new recordings.
