Pakie, Micho, and Gussie Russell.

Philadelphia Irish musician Seamus Egan of the band Solas is only in
his early thirties, but he has long been recognized as one of the top
Irish flute, guitar, and tenor banjo players anywhere. He is also
emerging as an excellent producer of CDs by other performers. This
week's program spotlights his many talents.

The Irish band Lunasa takes its name from the ancient Irish harvest
festival of the 1st of August. We celebrate that holiday by dancing
with music from the growing number of CDs by this outstanding
instrumental band.

"Lark in the Morning" 50th Anniversary |
|
|
One of the earliest record albums representing the rich singing and
instrumental traditions in the far corners of Ireland was recorded 50
years ago by musicologist Diane Hamilton, who traveled around Ireland
locating and recording the traditional musicians with help from the
young Liam Clancy. This week we celebrate the anniversary of that
album by playing it in its entirety, with updates on some of the
musicians who have passed on or are still performing.
